Current and prospective situation of municipal solid waste final disposal in Mexico: A spatio-temporal evaluation

Mexico, similarly to other developing countries, has planned landfilling as the central technology manage municipal solid waste (MSW). In this research, current and future situation of final disposal MSW in Mexico was studied, focusing on spatial temporal evaluation sites (FDS), landfill gas (LFG) emissions, potential power generation an 80-year horizon. Geographic information systems were applied for evaluation. The LFG 2.0 model used estimate emissions 1782 FDS operation, considering statal characteristics local features. transition towards a management system that is less dependent carried out via sensitivity analysis reduction generation, greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. study estimated had 2298 Mm3 2020, where only 4.6% suited up 2534 GWh y-1.
